Complaints & Appeals

The Global Journal of Biosciences and Environment (GJBE) is committed to handling complaints and appeals in a fair, transparent, and timely manner, consistent with COPE guidance on complaints and appeals.

What Can Be Appealed or Reported

  • Editorial decisions. Authors who believe a rejection or other editorial decision was based on a misunderstanding of the manuscript, a procedural error, or a conflict of interest may appeal the decision.
  • Reviewer conduct. Concerns about the tone, fairness, timeliness, or confidentiality of a peer review.
  • Editor or editorial staff conduct. Concerns about the conduct of an editor, associate editor, or editorial office staff member.
  • Research or publication misconduct. Suspected plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, authorship disputes, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other ethical concerns relating to a submitted or published article — see the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.

How to Submit a Complaint or Appeal

  1. Send a written statement to the editorial office at editor@gjbe.org, including the manuscript ID (where applicable), a clear description of the concern, and any supporting evidence.
  2. The editorial office will acknowledge receipt within 5 working days.
  3. The editor-in-chief, or a senior editor without a conflict of interest in the matter, will review the complaint and may request further information from the parties involved.
  4. Where the complaint concerns an editorial decision, the manuscript may be reassessed by an independent member of the editorial board who was not involved in the original decision.
  5. A written outcome, with reasoning, will normally be provided within 4–6 weeks of the complaint being received, depending on complexity.

Escalation

If a complainant is not satisfied with the outcome of the journal's internal process, they may escalate serious concerns regarding research or publication ethics to COPE (for member journals) or to the relevant institutional research integrity office. GJBE will cooperate fully with any such external review.

Confidentiality

All complaints are treated confidentially and handled without retaliation against the person raising the concern, in accordance with the journal's Privacy Statement.
